Slammer, clink, joint, nick. Derived from the noun тюрьма (prison), modified by the expressive, colloquial suffix -яга (which typically adds a gritty, raw, or down-to-earth tone to nouns). In everyday slang, it is a highly popular, informal term for a prison or jail (он только прошлым летом из тюряги откинулся — “he only got released from the slammer last summer”).
