To poke, to prod, to boss around; to nag, to pester, to give someone a hard time. A colloquial verb meaning to constantly nitpick, disturb, or micro-manage someone, often by pushing them to do something or reproaching them for minor things. Historically connected to regional dialects where it meant to jog, shake, or nudge. In everyday casual speech, it describes annoying, repetitive prodding by a boss, parent, or partner (хватит меня туркать, я всё сделаю! — “stop nagging me, I’ll get it done!”; начальник целый день её туркает — “the boss has been giving her a hard time all day”).
Тише, тише, тише. Давайте не будем туркать человека и самих себя.
Hush, hush, hush. Let’s not turn on the man and ourselves.
