водовка

водовка f [vodovka]

Voddy, little vodka, booze. A warm, colloquial noun formed by applying the expressive, affectionate diminutive suffix -ка to the standard word водка (with a phonetic shifting of the soft “д”). In everyday drinking culture and casual speech, it is used to refer to vodka in a cozy, familiar, or slightly ironic tone, often implying a relaxed atmosphere, a friendly gathering, or a shared shot among companions.

Мне завтра туда пора, — швейцар указал пальцем на потолок. — Дай мне на бутыловку водовки, и я за тебя замолвлю ТАМ словечко, за твой журнал.

I’m heading up there tomorrow, — the doorman pointed to the ceiling. — Give me some cash for a bottle of vodka, and I’ll put in a good word for you UP THERE, for your magazine.
