ящик m [jaščik]

The telly, the box; a coffin. A highly common, colloquial extension of the standard noun ящик (box, crate, drawer). In casual contemporary speech, it is most frequently used as a dismissive or cynical term for the television set, usually implying mind-numbing programming or state propaganda. In a completely different, grimly humorous context, it is used in the idiom сыграть в ящик (“to kick the bucket,” literally “to play into the box”), where it refers to a coffin.

Мульт вспомнился самый первый с Масяней — она перед теликом скептически так покуривает :)))) для многих сейчас искусство это то, что по ящику трындят…

I remember the first cartoon with Masyanya: she sits in front of the telly and sceptically smokes :)))) for many today art is what’s being shown on the telly…
