Nonsense, something worthless. It originates from old dialectal Russian words like хухря (a disheveled, unkempt person or a slacker). In modern Russian everyday speech, it is almost exclusively used with a negative modifier — не хухры-мухры (not just some minor nonsense) — to vigorously assert that a certain matter, object, or person is highly important, valuable, serious, or impressive and should not be underestimated.
Я фигею, дорогая редакция: Ибо вышел на высокий международный уровень! Берлинское биеннале не хухры-мухры!
I am rather flustered, dear redaction: I have made it to a high international level! The Berlin biennale is no joke!
