To not care, to be indifferent, to be all the same; to be a matter of complete indifference. Derived from the noun фиолетовый (purple/violet). In everyday slang, it is used as an impersonal predicate to express absolute indifference toward a situation, choice, or opinion (мне абсолютно фиолетово, что они обо мне думают — “I couldn’t care less what they think about me”). The origin of the phrase is often attributed to student chemistry slang, where litmus paper turns purple in a neutral medium (neither acidic nor alkaline), symbolizing a neutral, indifferent stance.
Ну да я не любитель, и мне это фиолетово.
I am not a fan and don’t care much about it.
