трёп

трёп m [trjop]

Chit-chat, small talk, chatter, yapping, hot air. Derived from the verb трепать (to shake, fray, or wag—as in трепать языком, “to wag one’s tongue”), which comes from the Proto-Slavic *trepati. In everyday slang, it is a very common noun used to describe idle gossip, empty promises, or superficial conversation that lacks serious substance (хватит этого трёпа, давайте к делу — “enough of this chit-chat, let’s get down to business”). It can also refer to untruthful boasting or exaggeration.

Я иногда тайком записывал наш застольный треп. Мне по хую.

I sometimes wrote down our discussions at table in secret. I don’t give a damn.
