Dimwit, slowpoke. Derived from the standard Russian noun тормоз (a mechanical brake). In everyday speech, youth culture, and internet slang, it is a highly popular, mild insult used to describe a person who reacts very slowly, lacks quick comprehension, or delays a process (ну ты и тормоз, мы же опаздываем — “you are such a slowpoke, we’re late”).
