To neigh; to laugh out loud, to guffaw, to cackle, to crack up. Derived from the Proto-Slavic *rъžati, which is an onomatopoeic root imitating the sound a horse makes. In everyday colloquial speech, street slang, and internet culture, it has become one of the most popular and expressive terms for laughing uncontrollably, loudly, or coarsely (мы весь вечер ржали над этим видео — “we spent the whole evening cracking up at that video”). It is also heavily used in the noun form ржака (a hilarious joke/situation) or ржач (loud laughter/fun).
Ржал: В Исландии абсолютно все лошади похожи на Матвиенку.
ROFL: In Iceland absolutely all horses look like Matvienko.
