To blow, to squander, to waste, to lose; to piss away, to screw up, to muck up, to choke. A highly popular, expressive colloquial verb derived from the vulgar root срать (to shit) with the perfective prefix про-, which signifies losing or wasting something completely. While it retains a distinctly crude, scatological flavor, it has evolved into one of the most common everyday slang terms for failure, missed opportunities, or wasted resources: 1. To carelessly waste or lose money, time, or an opportunity (просрать все полимеры — a famous Russian internet meme meaning “to ruin or blow everything completely”; он умудрился просрать целое состояние — “he managed to piss away an entire fortune”); 2. To lose a game, a match, or a competition due to poor performance or incompetence (мы просрали этот матч на последних минутах — “we blew/choked that match in the final minutes”).
А наши — никак. Бездарно просрали (как будто можно просрать талантливо?) и на чемпионат не едут.
But our team does bugger all. The screw up shamefully (as though one could screw up with talent?) and don’t go to the world cup.
