Crackdown, confrontation, aggressive encounter; hit-and-run (literal). A highly popular, expressive noun that functions on two levels. Literally, it denotes a traffic accident where a vehicle hits a pedestrian or object. However, its most famous usage is the slang metaphor born in the criminal underworld of the 1990s, where it means a hostile confrontation, extortion attempt, or an unprovoked verbal or physical attack (наезд на бизнес — “a raid/crackdown on a business”).
