лохануть

лохануть v pf [lohanut’]

To dupe, to scam, to rip off, to trick, to pull a fast one on someone. Derived from the highly popular noun лох (a naive person, a sucker, a gullible victim), combined with the verbalizing suffix -ану- to denote a swift, single action. In everyday slang, it has two primary directions: first, as a transitive verb, it means to deceive, trick, or swindle someone out of money or trust (меня вчера на рынке лоханули — “I got ripped off at the market yesterday”); second, in its reflexive form (лохануться), it means to make a stupid mistake, miscalculate, or embarrass oneself (я конкретно лоханулся с этим контрактом — “I completely blundered with this contract”).

Николай, лохануть можно абсолютно любого, достаточно применить нестандартную подачу.

Nikolai, you can fool absolutely anyone, all you have to do is apply a non-standard pitch.

лохануться v pf [lohanut’sja]

To blunder, to mess up, to make a fool of oneself, to screw up, to be taken for a ride. Derived as the reflexive form of the verb лохануть (to dupe/scam), rooted in the popular slang noun лох (a sucker, a naive person). In everyday vernacular, it means to accidentally act like a лох — specifically, to make a stupid mistake, miscalculate a situation, or fall victim to a trick due to one’s own carelessness (я конкретно лоханулся, когда купил эту подделку — “I completely screwed up and made a fool of myself when I bought this fake”).

Хайфовчане! Особенно те, кто сдаёт или снимает в том районе, скока, по-вашему прилично просить за такую квартиру? Так чтоб не оттолкнуть потенциального квартиросъёмщика неприкрытым корыстолюбием, но и не лохануться?

Folks of Haifa! In particular those letting or renting in the area, how much do you think one can honestly ask for this flat? So as not to put off potential lodgers through undisguised greed but also in order not to get ripped off?
