Whore, bitch, slut; (interjection) damn it!, fuck!, shit! While it existed in older Russian dialects, its massive popularity in modern Russian street and internet culture is a direct loan-adaptation from West Slavic languages (primarily Polish kurwa). It has two dimensions: 1. offensive noun for a woman deemed promiscuous or treacherous; 2. and far more frequently, expressive, versatile interjection used to vent anger, shock, or frustration, serving exactly like “fuck!” or “shit!” (курва, опять ключ потерял! — “damn it, I lost the key again!”).
