кайф

кайф m [kajf]

Euphoric pleasure, extreme satisfaction, substance-induced high. From the Arabic word كَيف (keyf) meaning “mood, pleasure, atmosphere”. The word was introduced into Russian in 1821 by Józef Julian Sękowski in his accounts of his journey through Egypt.

А еще в идеале чтобы — цветы, шампанское и машина. Это кайф; чего еще-то.

Ideally there should be flowers, champagne and a car. Fucking brilliant, what more could you want.

(Михаил Веллер, Легенды Невского проспекта, 1993)

кайф (ловить ~) v ipf [lovit’ kajf]

Enjoy, appreciate, to be high (including under the influence of drugs or alcohol).

А мальчики в кожах ловят свой кайф
и девочки смотрят им вслед.

In leather jackets, the boys seek their thrill,
as girls gaze after them dreamily.

(Борис Гребенщиков, Трачу Свое Время, 1986)

кайфануть v ipf [kajfanut’]

To catch a vibe, to chill out, to get a buzz; to enjoy oneself immensely. A highly expressive, popular slang verb derived from the Arabic-origin noun кайф (“pleasure/bliss”). It describes the act of experiencing deep relaxation, pure enjoyment, or a euphoric high, whether from good music, great company, delicious food, or substance use (мы отлично кайфанули на даче — “we had a brilliant time chilling out at the dacha”).

Вошёл в неё с большим трудом и только со смазкой, основное у неё узенькое! Но когда ощутил её плотный обхват, реально кайфанул!

I entered her with great difficulty and only with lube, her bum is tight! But when I felt her tight girth, it felt fucking fantastic!

кайфовать v ipf [kajfovat’] (нарк)

To groove, to unwind, to live it up; to chill out, to live the dream, to have a whale of a time. Describes the active process of experiencing deep pleasure, relaxation, or immense enjoyment from a specific situation, environment, or lifestyle: 1. Enjoying a peaceful, stress-free moment or chilling out (я просто лежу на пляже и кайфую — “I’m just lying on the beach and chilling out”); 2. Living well, partying, or thoroughly enjoying an activity (он всю жизнь только и делает, что кайфует — “all he does his whole life is live it up”).

Первый раз так и отстреллялся. Затем мы снова выпили шампусика, девчёнки уложили меня на живот и отмассировали в 4 руки моё тело. Так бы и лежал и кайфовал.

The first round ended when I came. Then we had some champagne again, the girls laid me on my stomach and gave me a four-handed massage. I could just lie there and enjoy.

кайфово adv [kajfovo]

Brilliant, sweet, blissful, lovely, wicked, top-notch. Used to describe a state of deep contentment, high quality, or an immensely enjoyable vibe. It can function as an exclamation, an answer to “how are things?”, or a description of an experience: 1. Feeling deeply relaxed, happy, or enjoying a great atmosphere (мы так кайфово посидели вчера — “we had such a lovely time catching up yesterday”); 2. Describing something as excellent or very cool (музыка звучит кайфово — “the music sounds brilliant / top-notch”).

The dick has a hard job, but an exciting one.

кайфолом m [kajfolom]

A buzzkill, a killjoy, a party-pooper; a wet blanket, a spoilsport, a rain on someone’s parade. A highly popular, expressive colloquial noun formed by combining the roots кайф and ломать (to break). It refers directly to a person who ruins everyone else’s good mood, dampens the atmosphere, or puts a sudden end to a fun situation (не будь кайфоломом, останься ещё на одну кружку — “don’t be a buzzkill, stay for another pint”). It can also occasionally refer to the frustrating event or piece of news itself that ruins the vibe.

капец ты кайфолом, Лёх

You are such a spoilsport, Aleksey
