Derived from the noun труха (rot, dross, sawdust, or wood powder), combined with the prefix за-, creating a noun that denotes someone who has become completely worn out, decayed, or degraded. In everyday street, school, and prison slang, it is a highly derogatory noun with two main applications: first, as a synonym for a pathetic, weak, or dirty-looking person who is constantly bullied or lacks self-respect; second, as a harsh insult for an incompetent slacker or a “wanker” who fusses around without achieving anything (да что ты слушаешь этого затруху? — “why the fuck are you listening to that wanker?”).
