жмур

жмур m [žmur]

Corpse, dead body, stiff. Derived from the verb жмуриться (to squint, to close one’s eyes), referencing the closed eyes of a deceased person. In modern Russian, it is a well-known slang noun used mostly in criminal, medical, or dark humorous contexts to refer to a dead body.

Воскресить жмура нереально… можно лишь сделать зомби.

Resurrecting a corpse is unrealistic… you can at most get a zombie.

жмурик m [žmurik]

Stiff, corpse, dead body, cadaver. Derived from the Russian verb жмуриться (to squint, to close one’s eyes), directly referencing the closed eyes of a deceased person. In everyday street, criminal, and medical/law enforcement slang, it is a highly common, darkly humorous, and cynical noun for a dead body (в кустах нашли какого-то жмурика — “they found some stiff in the bushes”).

Голос мне поведал о том, что кроме обычных врачей оказывается имеются доктора для жмуриков, патологоанатомы зовутся.

A voice told me that besides regular doctors there are doctors for stiffs, they’re called pathologists.
