To slam, to down, to blast; to detonate, to whack. A highly energetic, expressive verb that carries multiple vivid meanings depending on the context. Its primary function is to describe downing a shot of alcohol quickly or slamming a drink (жахнуть водки — “to down a shot of vodka”). It is also frequently used to describe a sudden, powerful explosion, a heavy strike of lightning, or delivering a massive physical blow to something.
