To masturbate, to jerk off; to waste time, to dilly-dally; to pester. Derived from the old Slavic root дрочити (originally meaning to spoil, caress, or pet, which later shifted in slang to sexual self-stimulation). In its literal sense, it is the standard vulgar verb for masturbation (он целый день сидит и дрочит — “he sits and jerks off all day long”). However, in everyday slang, its figurative uses are incredibly widespread: it frequently means to waste time on trivialities or hesitate instead of taking action (хватит дрочить, погнали — “stop dilly-dallying, let’s go”). It can also mean to exhaust someone with repetitive demands or pester them (начальник опять дрочит нас отчётами — “the boss is pestering us with reports again”).
