Simple-minded and usually strong bloke, that is easily manipulated by others. Rough-mannered individual. Initially means “cattle”, the word is loaned from Polish bydło (cattle, large livestock). Variant: быдлан.

Backward place, boring and behind the times area populated by Philistines. Functions as a harsh, snobbish, and universally understood moniker for a region, neighbourhood, or entire country perceived as being overrun by uneducated, aggressive, and primitive individuals.

Какой народ, такие и судьи с милицией. Лучче бить адвокатов. А таких ментов — кишка тонка. Вот поэтому и живем в быдлостане.

Every nation has the judges and cops it deserves. It’s better to beat up lawyers. But those cops are sissies. That’s why we’re living in such a dump.
