Ukrainian nationalists with a strong aversion of Russian rule, usually from Western Ukraine. Named after Stepan Bandera (1909-1959), founder of the Ukrainian insurgent army (UPA) and the Organisation of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN), symbol of Ukrainian independentism. Having collaborated with the Germans during WWII he is seen by Russian media as a synonym for fascism. The name is sometimes misspelt бендеры, бендеровцы and is used in the surreal compound жидобандеровцы (implying the supposed Ukrainian fascists cooperate with Jewish forces).

Благодаря таким женщинам Донбасс выстоит. Или как говорят демонстранты: да вы наших бабок с тяпками в руках не видели! Вот кто встанет насмерть против бандеровцев! Им терять нечего.

Mindless, noisy and easily manipulated crowd. The term stems from Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book where it appears as “Bandar-log” (monkey people, in Hindi बन्दर-लोग) to describe the monkey tribes. It has been used by Vladimir Putin in December 2011 to call out protesting citizens, characterising them a being manipulated by foreign powers. More recently its meaning has been expanded to become a synonym of бандеровцы due to its phonetic similarity.
