Alco, alcoholic, drunkard. Derived from a truncation of the word алкоголик (alcoholic), specifically taking the first syllable алк- and adding the highly productive colloquial suffix -ик. In modern Russian slang, it is a very common, informal, and mildly derogatory or humorous noun used to describe a chronic drinker or someone who frequently gets heavily intoxicated. (Note: It is homonymous with Алик, a common diminutive for the male names Aleksandr, Aleksey, Albert, or Oleg, but is distinguished by context and lowercase usage).

Потом иду домой и думаю… вот дожилась я, уже алики приглашают разделить с ними вино, водку и сигареты…

Then I go home and think… I’ve reached the point where winos begin offering to share their wine, vodka and cigarettes…
