Azeri (person), Azerbaijani. Derived from the proper noun Азербайджанец (Azerbaijani), truncated into a shorter, colloquial form. In everyday Russian speech, it is a highly common, slangy ethnonym used to refer to a person of Azerbaijani ethnicity or nationality (на рынке торгуют какие-то азеры — “some Azeri guys are selling stuff at the market”).
Стал покупать приправы исключительно на рынке у азеров — значительно вкуснее, помоему.
I started buying condiments at the market only from Azeris — they’re a lot tastier, in my opinion.
