Crap, rubbish, nonsense. A ubiquitous, mild slang noun derived from the euphemistic root фиг (the fig gesture, used as a non-profane substitute for obscene mat roots) combined with the expressive suffix -ня. In everyday speech, it serves as an incredibly versatile term used to describe a low-quality object, a trivial problem, utter nonsense, or just general stuff (e.g., Что это за фигня? — “What is this crap?”). While informal, it is completely socially acceptable in casual company and carries no severe vulgarity.
Читать можно триллер, иронический детектив, дамский роман, всякую фигню про гоблинов или эзотерическую литературу.
You can read thrillers, ironic detective stories, love novels, any whatchamacallit about goblins or esoteric literature.
(Ирина Борисова, Хозяйка, 2006)
Самое сладкое занятие на свете, определенно, страдать фигнёй.
The sweetest pastime in the world is definitely suffering from nonsense.
